Downtown’s newest eating spot, the Retro Downtown Cafe, is now officially open at 420 Marshall Street adjacent to Government Plaza and across from Shreve Memorial Library. At present, the hours are 7 am- 2 pm-ish, Monday-Friday. The crew threw open the doors Monday, Aug. 12 for a low-key ‘soft’ opening intended to give them a chance to test out the employees,
the kitchen, the menu and the myriad other things that have to work in harmony for a great dining experience. For the time being they are working with a limited menu of sandwiches, salads and a daily special in order to get food out quickly- that will soon change and they will roll out a lengthy list of food and beverage options. One thing they are offering now is a delicious variety of home-made baked goods and coffees. Eventually they will offer a full menu of breakfast items all day.
